The Bear Claw Back Scratcher Story

 

  The Original Bear Claw Back Scratcher was designed by a good friend of mine Duanne Mitchell from Bigfork Montana in the 70's. He made and sold them at local flea markets and fairs ( quite the charater by the way ) when he moved to Kalispell he quit making them, by then he was 88 yrs. old.

  One day Duanne and I were discussing and solving world problems over a cold one at the local V.F.W. when he went out to his car and came back with a bearclaw backscratcher ( the last one he had ) I was amazed at how well it worked. I asked him why he wasn't making them anymore and he said when he moved up from Bigfork he didn't have room for a woodshop anymore and that he had sold all his tools.

   Well that's when I suggested that I would turn my dbl. garage into a woodshop and we could start making them together and sell them again at the local summer markets. He agreed.

   Great! so a couple months later we were in business, I got the shop tools needed and we started making them again.Duannes health started failing and he only made it to the shop once and the day before our first market together he passed away @ the age of 90

   I miss Duanne and wish he was still here helping me make these backscratchers and solving the world problems together, but he's not so I'll keep making his famous backscratchers and pass them on for all to Enjoy.
